First Book gives kids the chance to own their first new book through LCSC program

Literacy programs for children in Lewis, Nez Perce, Clearwater, Idaho and Asotin counties are invited to apply for grants from Lewis-Clark State College’s First Book program.

First Book is a national nonprofit organization with the mission of giving children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books.

First Book works with existing community literacy programs. Organizations must agree to use the books in their program and then distribute them to the children to take home and keep. More information is available online at First Book-LCSC or by calling Kaitlin Cushman at (208) 792-2144.

Grant applications are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 20 and can be emailed to Cushman, First Book-LCSC, at kmcushman@lcsc.edu; or mailed or hand delivered to the LCSC Service Corps Office, 826 7th Street, Lewiston, Idaho  83501.
