On the Beat - Cruso sings Celtic at Cafe Sage Saturday

On the Beat

Carolyn Cruso

Hometown: Orcas Island, Wash.

Genres: Celtic, Americana, pop

Bio: Wielding two guitars, a flute, a hammered dulcimer and her voice, Cruso roams the back roads of the world

. The songwriter is inspired by her travels and those she meets — “seekers, divine misfits, glorious places, forgotten corners, the remaining pockets of beauty left in the wake of man’s progress.”

Background: Cruso grew up in New York’s Hudson River Valley, a hot spot for the 70’s Folk Revival. As a teen she attended the Hudson River Revival Festival and volunteered on the Clearwater, an historical replica of an 1800’s sloop inspired by Pete Seeger and friends.

Unusual fact: The hammered dulcimer originated in Persia more than 2,000 years ago.
