Paradise Creek Musical Arts Society forming on the Palouse

There is a new opportunity for singers and musicians -- the Paradise Creek Musical Arts Society, an inter-denominational collaboration of people and churches.

The newly formed nonprofit group is planning four performances a year, beginning in March with Handel’s “Messiah.” A registration meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at First United Methodist Church, 322 E. Third St., Moscow. Rehearsals will then be twice a week from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, Jan. 9 through March 26 at Moscow Middle School. “Messiah” is to be performed March 30 at the Moscow High School Auditorium.

The group’s artistic director, J.D. Gilkey, 79, has lived in Moscow for seven years. He first conducted the “Messiah” in 1958 in Germany and 15 other times since then, including Moscow, Russia in 1960, he said in an email. “I wanted to conduct the ‘Messiah’ again before I got too old.”

The Paradise Creek Musical Arts Society is a nonprofit group. More information is available by calling Gilkey at (208) 596-4744, emailing paradisecreekmusical@gmail.com or online at paradisecreekmusical.org.
