PULLMAN — For those who see gardens as more work than play, author, gardener, cook and blogger Lorene Edwards Forkner has written “Handmade Garden Projects: Step by Step Instructions for Creative Garden Features, Containers, Lighting & More.”Forkner, the new editor of Pacific Horticulture magazine, will sign copies of her book at 1 p.m. Saturday at Living in the Garden.
The book is specific to the seasonal moods of the Pacific Northwest and aims to provide inspiration and fresh ideas for West Coast gardeners. Forkner’s ideas are backed by a degree in fine art and years of practical experience owning and operating a small specialty nursery in Seattle. Her approach to making gardens is rooted in childhood outdoor play with a designer’s eye for re-purposing objects in the spirit of conservation and thrift.
Forkner blogs about gardens and the stories behind them at PlantedAtHome.com where one can find some of her unique recipes like Old Fashioned Crock Pickles, Rose Honey and Cranberry Apple Ketchup.
Living in the Garden is at 601 Reid Rd.
