In her biography about her husband, “41 D Man of Valor,” author Lisa Simmons writes about her spouse’s multifaceted life and accomplishments before his death in 2008 during an 11-hour hostage rescue standoff in Los Angeles.Her husband, Randy Simmons, was honored posthumously in 2009 with the first Cougar Courage Award from the Washington State University Alumni Association. The 27-year veteran of the LA Police Department was a former football player who graduated from WSU in 1979 with a degree in criminology. His death was the first in LAPD history of a SWAT officer losing his life in the line of duty. His son Matthew is now a student and football player at WSU.
Matthew and Lisa Simmons will have a book signing from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the WSU Bookie. Lisa Simmons is a graduate of University of California Santa Barbara and carries on her husband’s legacy through the Randal D. Simmons Outreach Foundation.
