The Asotin County Library board had already agreed to adopt a library cat for its Clarkston branch when someone offered them Carmen.
The 9-month-old tabby got a special collar with a key ring-sized library card for a tag. However, two weeks after she arrived, librarians noticed she was getting noticeably fatter.
Carmen gave birth to six kittens April 12. The library's new family has a quiet place to rest in a plastic tub in the library's main office. The kittens' eyes are still closed and so visitors are kept to a minimum but librarians plan to let more people visit them as they get older. Several of the new kittens are already spoken for and they expect to find homes for the others.
Carmen, a friendly and playful cat, joins the ranks of library cats nationwide. She has her own facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/librarylovincat
