Thousands of pounds of candy will be digested this weekend as trick-or-treaters beat the streets for sweets, but that’s not all that’s on the menu of regional Halloween weekend events, Oct. 30-Nov. 2, 2014.
MOSCOW
Besides Halloween trick-or-treating, the Palouse Mall is having an all-ages carved pumpkin contest with the grand prize being a $100 shopping gift card to the mall. People can bring their already carved pumpkins to the mall office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Friday. A winner will be chosen Friday when there will be free trick-or-treating from 5 to 7 p.m.
Pumpkin carving, mask making and a Halloween buffet are the highlights of a family-friendly event tonight at the Moscow Moose Lodge sponsored by Moscow Mardi Gras Inc. The event is 5 to 9 p.m. at 210 N. Main St. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children or $25 for a family of four. All proceeds go to Moose Heart Charities and the Moscow Mardi Gras Inc. Youth Grant Program.
Halloween at Eastside Marketplace will offer kids a place to trick-or-treat, play games and participate in indoor activities. The free event is from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at 1420 S. Blaine St.
Children are invited to come in costume and trick-or-treat from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Friday at Aspen Park Healthcare. The center is at 420 Rowe St.
The annual Tubaween concert is 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at the University of Idaho Administration Building Auditorium. Donations will be accepted at the door. Proceeds will go toward tuba/euphonium events and guest artists.
A Halloween Dance and Party Bash Friday night at the American Legion Log Cabin will benefit Circles of Caring Adult Day Services. From 8 to midnight regional bands performing include Tom Drake, Ben Walden, Yellow Dog Flats and Henry C and the Willards. There is a suggested donation of $10. People are welcome to bring an appetizer to share. Beer and wine will be for sale. The cabin is at 317 S. Howard St.
The inaugural Halloween Masquerade Ball is Friday at the Moscow Moose Lodge. The charity event for ages 21 and older is sponsored by Moscow Mardi Gras Inc., and will feature music by Tubaluba and a performance by La Vaudevillians at 9:30 p.m. Doors open at 9 p.m. Music starts at 10. There will be best costume and masquerade mask contests, appetizers and a no-host bar. Tickets are $8 in advance, available at Umpqua Bank in Moscow and the Moscow Moose Lodge, 210 N. Main St. They are also available online at mmghalloweenball.brownpapertickets.com. Tickets are $10 at the door. All proceeds will go to the Moscow Mardi Gras Youth Grant Program.
PULLMAN
Spooky Science is the theme on Halloween at the Palouse Discovery Science Center. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday kids will be able to participate in activities like making glow-in-the-dark slime, learning about blood, fire, sound and more at seven interactive stations. Admission is free for members or $5 per child and $7.50 per adult for non-members. Visitors dressed in costume for the event will receive $1 off admission. The center is at 950 N.E. Nelson Court, Pullman.
The Pullman Civic Theatre will present the science fiction classic “The Day The Earth Stood Still: Radio Drama” at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Nye Street Theatre. Admission is $5 at the door at 1220 N.W. Nye St.
“Celestial Spooks” offers eerie and macabre stories of the sky at the Washington State University Planetarium. The show is 7 to 8 p.m. Friday and 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students at the door, cash or check; no credit cards are accepted. Children 6 and younger are free. PALOUSE
The 13th annual Haunted Palouse, strictly for ages 12 and older, continues Friday and Saturday. Two haunted houses, a haunted hay ride, photo booth, freaky food vendors and other chilling attractions are highlights of the downtown event from 7 to 10 p.m. People are advised to dress in warm clothes. Tickets are $15 (cash only) and will be sold between 7 and 10 p.m. near the drive-through area of the Palouse branch of AmericanWest Bank, 150 N. COLFAX
Kids grades six to eight are invited to Zombiefest II 5:30 to 7 tonight at the Colfax Library. Zombie crafts, treats and walking-dead games will be offered. Those who come dressed as zombies will be eligible for a prize.
ENDICOTT
The Endicott Community Club German Dinner and Silent Auction is noon to 2:45 p.m. Sunday at the Endicott School cafeteria. The menu includes German and potato sausage, meatballs, German noodles, kraut kuga, sauerkraut, salads, breads, desserts and beverages. All proceeds go toward projects in Endicott. Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for children. The school is at 308 School Road.
GENESEE
Halloween memories can be preserved in photos on a farmhouse porch at the historic White Spring Ranch. From 3 to 9 p.m. Friday families and kids are invited to stop by for candy and photos on the decorated porch. The event is free but cans of food for the Genesee Food Bank are welcome. The farm museum is at 1004 Lorang Road, off of U.S. Highway 95.
LEWISTON
Community Trick-or-Treat at the Idaho State Veterans Home is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at 821 21st Ave.
Clearwater Corn Maze will be haunted for Halloween and Lewiston High School students will offer hayrides as part of their performance “Hayride to Sleepy Hollow” taking place next to the maze at Lewiston’s Community Park. The maze is open 6 to 10 p.m. Friday. Admission is $6 per person, kids 4 and younger are admitted free. “Hayride to Sleepy Hollow” is 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the maze on Friday. Admission is $3, with hayrides leaving regularly from the Potlatch No. 1 Federal Credit Union parking lot off of Warner Avenue. The rides are sponsored by the Lewiston High School Safe and Sober Committee.
Live music by area bands and a costume contest will take place Friday night at the grand opening of the Third Wheel Event Center and Concert Hall. The event is for ages 21 and older. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Bands performing are Beyond Today, 13 Bonez, Nuclear Waterheater and the Market. The winner of the contest will be announced at the end of the concert and receive a cash prize. Third Wheel is at 1702 Main St., Lewiston.
CLARKSTON
Clarkston’s 10th annual Sixth Street Trick or Treat is 4 to 6 p.m. Friday downtown. Participating merchants will hand out candy. Laurie Van Allen Photography and Wasem’s will offer photos for sale.
Trunk-or-Treat will feature trick-or-treat fun, games and face painting from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wesleyan Church. The event will also include free hot dogs and cocoa. The church is at 1108 Elm St.
The Cowboy Justice Band is the headliner for a Halloween Masquerade Ball from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday at the Clarkston Moose Lodge Ballroom. The event is for ages 21 and older. There will be a full bar and a costume contest with prizes. The Cowboy Justice Band plays a mix of western outlaw and Southern country music and features members from around the region. Admission is $5 at the door. The lodge is at 814 Sixth St.
OROFINO
The third annual Trick or Treat Rocking the Street takes place Friday in downtown Orofino, and is sponsored by the Orofino Chamber of Commerce. Johnson Avenue will be shut down from 5 to 8 p.m. for the free event. Local business owners and organizations will hand out candy and goodies. Participating kids are required to be in costume and accompanied by an adult. Games and activities will include a bean bag toss, shooting contest, jumping house, costume contests and music.
The St. Theresa Parish annual Harvest Dinner will be held Sunday. From noon to 2 p.m. the menu will feature sausage from Sonnen’s Meats in Cottonwood and a special sauerkraut recipe, with a variety of apple and pumpkin desserts at the Little Flower Room, 446 Brown Ave. Cost is $10 per person, with children 5 and younger free.
