
Dogwood trees bloom throughout April in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley where the Dogwood Festival turns 30 this year.
With the month of April the 30th anniversary of the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley Dogwood Festival arrives, kicking off a monthlong celebration of spring with some new events along with the old.
l A new Commemorative Dogwood Wines Release Party starts things off Tuesday, April 1 at Basalt Cellars in Clarkston. From 4:30-6:30 p.m. free tastes of Dogwood Red and Dogwood White wines will be served along with light appetizers and live music by the Erik Bowen Trio. Additional wine will be for sale by the glass or bottle, and a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the festival.l The 24th annual Confluence Grape and Grain beer and wine tasting and silent auction is April 11 at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History.
l New this year is the Color the Valley Run starting at 10 a.m. April 12. Runners will be showered with colored powders along a 5K race route at Community Park off Warner Avenue in the Lewiston Orchards. Registration is $20 until Tuesday and $30 after that at www.lcsc.edu. The event is sponsored by LCSC’s Business Student Organization and Kinesiology Club.
l Earth Day will be celebrated from 4-7 p.m. April 17 at Lewis-Clark Recyclers in downtown Lewiston and will feature an adult beer garden and kids activities. Admission is free.
l Local sports memorabilia is being collected through Friday for the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street exhibit “Hometown Teams” opening April 19 at the LCSC Center for Arts & History. Artifacts from any local sports are welcome — from baseball and skateboarding to fly fishing and log birling. To loan or donate items, contact the center at (208) 792-2243.
l April 18-21 is the Lewiston All Breed Dog Show at the Nez Perce County Fairgrounds.
l The three-on-three basketball Dogwood Dunk Tournament is April 19 at the LCSC Activity Center parking lot. Registration forms are on the LCSC Athletics website.
l Art Under the Elms is April 25-27 at the LCSC campus. Lewiston’s 7 Devils will play a free concert 6-8 p.m. April 26 at LCSC’s outdoor amphitheater. In a change, artisans will sell wares until 7 p.m. opening night. The show and shine is April 26.
l The 37th annual Seaport River Run starts at 10 a.m. April 26 at Swallows Park in Clarkston and benefits the Willow Center this year.
