From Moscow’s Main Street to a remote mountain opera house, Latah County properties on the National Register of Historic Places are the focus of a program Thursday at Moscow City Hall.
Boise-based representatives of the Idaho State Historic Preservation Office will talk about the history behind various county buildings, from barns to depots, and provide technical advice to local preservationists with nominations for the register.
Architectural historian Tricia Canaday will show images and give background on register sites like the Moscow Library, an unusual Inland Northwest example of Mission Style architecture; and the Bovill opera house.
Canaday will be joined by the agency’s grant coordinator, Ann Swanson. The program is at 7:30 p.m. at the second floor City Council Chambers. Refreshments will be served.
The National Register is the official federal list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects significant in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering, and culture. National Register properties have significance to the history of their community, state, or the nation.
