Uslan was the executive producer of two decades of Batman movies, including the The Dark Knight and The Dark Night Rises. He started out as a New Jersey kid from a blue collar family who loved comic books. Hell be at Washington State University Wednesday to talk about his journey from fan to filmmaker and sign copies of his 2011 book, The Boy Who Loved Batman, the true story about his rise in Hollywood.
Uslan is a comic book author and expert. Hes written dozens of books charting the history of the comics, including Mysteries in Space A History of Science Fiction Comics. He is credited with being the first person to create an accredited university course on comic book history and folklore. After getting a job at DC Comics, where he revived The Shadow, and getting a law degree, Uslan secured the film rights to Batman and began searching for a studio that could realize his vision for a darker, more serious hero.
Uslan hasnt spent his entire life pursuing super heroes. He won an Emmy Award as executive producer of the childrens series Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? He also produced the PBS miniseries Three Sovereigns for Sarah, based on the true story of the Salem Witch Trials. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. A book signing reception will follow the 7 p.m. lecture.
