A starling looks startlingly different in fresh fall plumage with white-tipped feathers. In the spring and summer the white ends mostly wear away until the starling appears darker like the bird we’re more used to seeing. This color change is called wear molt. Photographed in a mountain ash tree at the Lewiston Wildlife Habitat Area by Stan Gibbons on 11-13-2018.
