This plant, in early fall color, was found along the shoreline of the Snake river, west of Almota. Its palmate, deeply lobed leaves appear to be those of a bigleaf maple, Acer macrophyllum, native to west coast areas. It is used extensively as an ornamental and it likely developed from seed carried by river from Lewiston or vicinity. Many other exotic plants occur along the river in this area, brought there that way. Photo by Malcolm Furniss on September 30.
