LEWISTON — Saturday, Aug. 26, crowds will head to Lewiston’s Community Park for an epic mud bath at the 2017 Gritman Medical Center LC Valley Down and Dirty Mud Run.
If you think you must be a top- tier athlete to take on the obstacle course, you’re mistaken.
Over the years, organizers have honed the course to fit all ages and abilities — from those who like a leisurely stroll, to competitors testing their mettle, to kids given the green light to get as dirty as they want for a good cause. It’s also open, for free, to spectators.
“Some of the most fun is had by friends taking their time through the muddy course,” said Nathan Alford, editor and publisher of the Lewiston Tribune and Moscow-Pullman Daily News and president of the nonprofit group that organizes the event.
Here’s what’s to expect at the fourth annual run presented by Inland 360.
New this year, runners can choose between two courses, a 2.8-mile route or a 4-mile route. Heats start every 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. New among the 15 obstacles are the Muddy Monkey Bars.
The Mini-Mudder, a separate eight-obstacle course for kids ages 10 and younger, returns with a new challenge, a cargo net crawl. The Mini-Mudder is open from 9 to noon, and kids can run it as many times as they want. Parents are welcome to run alongside.
Runners age 11-15, or younger, capable athletes, can compete on the big course at discounted rate of $30 at 10 a.m. Youth wanting to compete with a parent will need to register in the same heat as their parent at full price, then email email@example.com to request a refund.
Find live music at the finish line featuring winning bands from Moscow’s 2017 Rendezvous Showcase: Mister Handshake, the Joseph Hein Band and Landrace. Also at the finish line, Clarkston’s Riverport Brewing will offer beer to those ages 21 and older with ID for cash donations. Water will also be available.
In the last three years, the nonprofit event has raised $42,000 for local charities. This year, net proceeds will go to the YWCA of Lewiston-Clarkston, Opportunities Unlimited Inc.; Willow Center; Centennial Food Bag and Pantry; and the Diabetes Awareness Fund at Gritman.
