County fair season hits a peak this weekend with three fairs — Latah, Clearwater and Garfield — bringing their annual celebrations of agriculture and rural life to the area in Moscow, Orofino and Pomeroy, respectively. And Orofino Lumberjack Days, which runs today through Sunday, honors the area’s logging history and culture.

Details about the fairs and other community celebrations — including Palouse Days and the Juliaetta Blackberry Festival and Car Show — are in the calendar at inland360.com/events.

A cleanup party for a stretch of Idaho Highway 8 on Saturday will be followed by a volunteer appreciation barbecue, organized by Palouse Land Trust.

The event starts at 9 a.m. with a meetup at the city park in downtown Deary for carpooling to the cleanup site. The barbecue that follows the work party is for “anyone and everyone who has volunteered with Palouse Land Trust,” according to a PLT news release, and will continue until midafternoon.

Participating in Saturday’s cleanup isn’t a requirement for attending the barbecue, but “extra cool volunteer bonus points” will be graciously awarded to the crew.
