Local artist Andru Gomez infused holiday playlists with a laid-back flavor touched with humor when he released the single “Tequila Christmas” earlier this week.

The smooth sound of Gomez’s indie-Americana style meets lyrics like “Santa called to say he’s lactose intolerant, so we put out cookies and Cuervo instead” in the tune he wrote in 2019 and decided it was time to share this holiday season.

It’s available on Spotify, Apple Music and “pretty much all streaming platforms,” he said.

“I would say this song is playful and nostalgic,” he said, “and it definitely sounds like Christmas.”

Gomez, a Lewiston High School graduate who’s lived in Moscow the past 10 years, left his job at Pullman’s Birch & Barley restaurant in August to pursue music full time.

“To devote my life to it has been quite the adventure,” he said.

Fans who’ve heard Gomez at any number of area venues know he typically plays acoustic guitar and sings, sometimes adding harmonica. To record “Tequila Christmas,” he took on bass guitar and bells as well.

He said he plans to continue playing spots like John’s Alley Tavern and local wineries, while taking his music to the greater region, including Cle Elum, Wash., over Christmas and Leavenworth, Wash., in the spring.

“My goal is to be playing about 100 shows a year,” he said.
