Music will help feed the hungry at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 at Lewiston’s sixth annual Food Bank Country Music Show.Local musicians performing at the show include Shiloh Sharrard, Hal Olson, Chad Bramlet, 7 Devils, David Tucker, Beargrass Duo, Bodie Dominguez, and Monte Garrison. Sharrard recently won the Clearwater River Casino Idol contest and opened the casino’s concert for “American Idol” star Taylor Hicks.
All proceeds from the food bank show are donated to the Community Action Food Bank in Lewiston. Admission is $10 at the door at New Bridges Community Church in Lewiston.
“If you want to put more than $10 in that’s OK too,” says Monte Garrison, a retired teacher and country singer who started the show with his friend Dominguez, a fellow musician and retired Potlatch worker.
Past shows have garnered $3,000 to $4,000 a year for the food bank, says Garrison, who kicks off each year with his songs “I’ll Be O.K.” and “The Food Bank Song.” He wrote the songs after meeting and trying to help a homeless man he met living under a Lewiston bridge.
“This is real to me. This is a good thing,” Garrison says. “Nobody knows why a person is homeless and makes the decision they do. They just need help.”
Extra parking is available across the street from the church at the Idaho State Veterans Home. A shuttle will be available to transport people to the concert.
