People invited to "Yarn Bomb" Moscow Library
A yarn bombed tree is an example of the current popularity of yarn bombing.

The Moscow Library is sponsoring a community art project based on “yarn bombing,” a kind of street art involving colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn.

Crafters are invited to create pieces to decorate the grounds outside the library as well as items inside the library. Pieces should be created specifically for the library’s yarn bombing project, rather than previously made articles.

The deadline for submitting entries is July 3. Those who enter will be eligible to win one of three $25 gift certificates from the Yarn Underground in Moscow. To win, entries must be accompanied by name and contact information and be submitted at the circulation desk of the library. Library staff will assemble the pieces and the entire installation will be viewable the week of July 7.

To support the Yarn Bombing project, the library has been hosting free knitting and crochet classes since May. Check the library’s events calendar for the next free class. A shelf of knitting and crochet books for in-house use has been set up in the library. Free yarn is also available while supplies last. Details and helpful information for the yarn bombing project, including suggested items at the library to be decorated, may be found at www.latahlibrary.org.
