The words may not quite fit, but Animal Clinic and Hospital owners John and Susila Bales have something new to put on their old-school (and borderline iconic) business readerboard along the Troy Highway -- "Voted 2017 Best Veterinary Office in the Inland 360 Readers' Choice Awards."

The Moscow business, celebrating its 70th anniversary in Moscow this year, received 55 percent of the 2,117 votes cast in the category between June 17 and 25 at inland360.com.

With six doctors and a staff of 30, Animal Clinic and Hospital is known for "excellent medicine and excellent customer experience," John Bales said.

The business was started by Dr. Henry Zimet in 1947 and was originally at the current site of the Moscow Food Co-op. The business moved to its current location at 1222 S. Logan St. some years later. The Baleses are the fourth owners of the business.

"We're commited to community," Susila Bales added. "We're trusted by so many in this community to take care of their pets, and we appreciate that." The business threw open its doors June 16-17 for a big customer appreciation weekend and will continue to shower clients with gifts and giveaways through 2017.

The business has an active Facebook presence and can be found on the web at http://animalclinic.org/. Two finalists were named in the category: Palouse Animal Wellness & Surgery Center in Moscow, and Rustebakke Veterinary Service, Clarkston.
