Bird-brained ideas: 'Bird Box' Challenge kicks of this year's ridiculous internet trends

Welcome to 2019, the year that everyone decides to wear blindfolds while going about everyday life.

We have truly advanced as a species.

Known as the Bird Box Challenge, the trend comes from the Netflix thriller “Bird Box,” in which the characters will die unless they remain blindfolded. So, some people decided it would be fun to video themselves doing the same thing in real life.

And yes, it can be entertaining to watch blindfolded people doing fairly harmless things like walking around or applying makeup. It’s when these people start running around, driving cars, and other things that require sight that it gets dangerous.

All the responsible adults are trying to keep their cool while reminding people to please use caution. Netflix, while it has denounced the trend, couldn’t have come up with a better marketing plan for “Bird Box.”

So if you’re looking for them, better uses for blindfolds might include:

Sleeping on a plane
Hitting a pinata
Participating in a taste test
Playing “Pin the Tail on the Donkey”
Various ridiculous-but-safe team-building activities
Putting on a kidnapee so they can’t see where you’re taking them
Dressing up as a kidnapee while riding in the backseat of a car
Ignoring everyone at the dinner table (earplugs also recommended)
