Across the country, the class of 1987 is celebrating 30 year high school reunions. Turns out the Lewiston High School class of that year was inclined to rock.

Friday you can hear it at Hogan’s Pub where graduates of the class will perform with their current bands.

Class of 1987 President Darren Eldridge, who goes by “D-Tox” as the leader of the Spokane band Sweet Rebel D., organized the show that opens with musician William Finch of ‘87. Next up is the Boise-based indie rock band Play Like Randy featuring Kyle Hemly, Mike Cahill and Pat Crow, all of ‘87; and Dennis Dillion, from the LHS class of ‘85.

Sweet Rebel D. will end the night with “foot stompin’ soul hollerin’ in-your-face Americana.” The eight-piece band features Eldridge on lead vocals and guitar, international accordion champion Sammy Thomas, champion fiddler Matt Renner on mandolin, Matt Loi on upright bass, Britni Weaver on drums; Ella Rose on backing vocals, guitar and banjo; and Marlin Martinez on

percussion. Sitting in with the band will be James “Slinky” Denham of Asotin on saxophone.

“My goal for many moons was to blend bluegrass and punk rock cohesively,” Eldridge said. “That’s not such a far stretch, all you do is add drums to bluegrass and you’ve done it. Holding it all together is the trick.”

Sweet Rebel D. has played Hogan’s before and traditionally ends the night with an outdoor acoustic session on the back porch, Eldridge said.
