Lewiston theater offers acting and dancing lessons to prep potential auditioners for "9 to 5 the Musical"

You've dreamed of starring in a musical but there's a problem. You can't sing or dance. The Lewiston Civic Theatre has a solution.

The theater will hold workshops in acting, singing and dancing to prepare potential auditioners for the hit 1970s story of friendship and revenge, "9 to 5 the Musical." The show will be directed by the theater's new Artistic Director Torok Lewis and will open the season Sept. 20-Oct. 7.

An Acting and Singing workshop is 1 p.m. June 2. This workshop will prepare people for auditions. It will cover the casting and rehearsal process, how to prepare for an audition and how to stand out during an audition.

The four week Dance workshop is 6-7:30 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, June 4-27. The class is for beginners, amateurs or professionals. It will cover a variety of different dance styles that will be in "9 to 5 The Musical." People interested in auditioning for the show are strongly encouraged to take the workshop.

Auditions for "9 to 5 the Musical" are 11 a.m. July 14 and 6 p.m. July 15.

Audition packets may be picked up in the box office during regular business hours. The packet will include the portions of the script and music from the score needed for the audition. The audition packet will also have the audition form to be filled out and returned at auditions.

For auditions people should also bring a headshot, resume and be dressed for movement. Rehearsals begin July 17.

"9 to 5 The Musical," set to the music of Dolly Parton, takes place 1979 and tells the story of three unlikely friends who conspire to take control of their company and learn there’s nothing they can’t do, even in a man’s world. Outrageous, thought provoking and even a little romantic, it's about getting credit and getting even. The show will be choreographed by Kyle Rustebakke with music directed by Tony Rosetti.

All workshops and auditions are at the theater at 805 Sixth Ave.  (208) 746-3401
