PULLMAN — The lion needs his courage, the tin man needs his heart, the scarecrow needs his brain and Dorothy needs to get back to Kansas.
The central plot line of “The Wizard of Oz” is universally known, but cast members at the Regional Theatre of the Palouse in Pullman are bringing their own personalities to the beloved characters during tonight’s premiere.
“Dorothy is just trying to find herself, and that’s something I definitely relate to and plan to bring on stage,” said 14-year-old Daphne Felstead, who plays Dorothy.
Peter Hanes, 23, who plays the Scarecrow, said his character’s positive spin on life will remind the audience to not take life so seriously.
“There are a lot of trials in life, but the journey will make you a better person,” Hanes said.
“The Wizard of Oz,” which will run through Aug. 30, also stars Jordan Eby, 21 as alternate Dorothy, Scott Dennis, 21, as the Tinman and Jasper Barbosa-Rodriguez, 20, as the Lion.
“The Wizard of Oz” debuted in 1939 as an adaptation of the 1900 novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” The film was named the most-viewed motion picture by the Library of Congress and is often ranked on best movie lists in critics’ and public polls.
