For teens, springtime means it’s time to plan for prom or other formal dances.Formal dresses often are an expensive, one-time purchase. Troy High School senior Loriza Atkinson is working to change that this year by collecting gently used gowns to resell at an affordable price, with most proceeds going to charity.
On March 22 and 23 Atkinson will hold Say Yes to the Dress at the Troy High School Library. All dresses will be $25. A variety of gowns will be available for purchase from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 22 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 23. Proceeds will be donated to Family Promise of the Palouse.
People can donate dresses to the event, or dresses can be consigned for $25. If consigned gowns sells, the proceeds will be returned to the seller. Consigned dresses that do not sell must be picked up by April 15, or the seller can choose to donate the dress to an area agency.
People can drop off dresses through Friday at the Troy High School office, 101 Trojan Drive. If needed, pickup can be arranged by contacting Atkinson at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling (208) 892-4704.
