Some of us will admit that Thanksgiving really isn’t about the turkey. And it’s not about family, gratitude or pilgrims either — it’s about the pie.
If pie is what you’re most thankful for at the holiday table, we won’t hold it against you. Unless you steal the piece we’ve been eyeing for ourselves. Apple or pumpkin, huckleberry or banana cream — pie holds a special place in our hearts and bellies. In celebration of the glorious sweet-filled pastry, we’re holding the first-ever Inland 360 Holiday Pie Championships. Through it, we aim to determine which pie — in all it’s delicious varieties — is the best. In this attempt, we anticipate a careful presentation of facts, passionate tributes and heated exchange, as only one pie may be crowned with this grand honor.
Over the next few weeks, we invite you to vote for your favorites. Beginning today, the weekly online poll at inland360.com will be open from 5 a.m. Thursday through 5 p.m. Monday, where you can click your favorite pies through to the next round. Each week, winners and an updated bracket will be published in Inland 360 and voting will begin online again. The champion will be announced in the Thanksgiving Day issue of Inland 360.
Pies are divided into two divisions, arbitrarily sorted and including both fruit, custard and other types — all of them sweet. (Sorry, Shepherd’s pie, you’re going to have to find another contest to join.) If it’s helpful, you may research your options by enjoying a slice (or several) and sharing your favorites with others.
Read. Eat. Vote. May the pies be ever in your flavor.
Wow. Thanks for your vote! We're tabulating the sweet success of this week's winners and will announce the results Thursday.
